SOSitter is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, share, and protect your personal information when you use the SOSitter mobile application, website, and related services. By using SOSitter, you agree to the practices described in this policy.

1. INFORMATION WE COLLECT

1.1 Information You Provide

  •       Account Information: Your name, email address, phone number, and password when you create an account
  •       Profile Information: For care seekers, details about the children, pets, or elderly individuals in your care including names, ages, special needs, and care preferences. For caregivers, professional credentials, certifications, work history, and a profile photo
  •       Payment Information: Billing details processed securely through our third-party payment processor. SOSitter does not store full card numbers
  •       Communications: Messages exchanged between users through the in-app messaging system
  •       Reviews: Written reviews and ratings you submit about caregivers or care seekers
  •       Identity Verification: For caregivers who choose to complete optional verification or background screening, government-issued identification and other documentation submitted for that purpose

1.2 Information Collected Automatically

  •       Usage Data: Information about how you use the platform, including searches, profiles viewed, bookings made, and features accessed
  •       Location Data: General location based on your IP address or, with your explicit permission, precise GPS location used to match you with nearby caregivers
  •       Device Information: Device type, operating system, app version, and unique device identifiers
  •       Log Data: IP addresses, browser type, pages visited, and the date and time of your activity

1.3 Information From Third Parties

  •       Background Check Providers: When a caregiver voluntarily opts into a background check, we receive the resulting report from our third-party consumer reporting agency partner. Background checks are not required to use the platform.
  •       Social Login Providers: If you log in through Google or Apple, we receive basic profile information from those providers in accordance with their own privacy policies

2. HOW WE USE YOUR INFORMATION

We use the information we collect to:

  •       Create and manage your account
  •       Match care seekers with available caregivers based on location, availability, and care type
  •       Process subscription payments and manage billing
  •       Enable in-app messaging between users
  •       Send booking confirmations, care reminders, and account notifications
  •       Process optional background checks for caregivers who voluntarily request the service
  •       Improve platform features, reliability, and user experience
  •       Investigate reported violations and enforce our Terms of Service
  •       Comply with applicable legal obligations
  •       Send promotional communications to users who have opted in

3. HOW WE SHARE YOUR INFORMATION

SOSitter does not sell your personal information. We share your information only in the following circumstances:

3.1 With Other Users. When you book a caregiver or a caregiver accepts a booking, we share relevant profile information between the parties to facilitate the care arrangement. This includes your name, profile photo, location area, and care details. We do not share financial information between users.

3.2 With Service Providers. We work with third-party providers for payment processing, optional background checks, cloud hosting, analytics, and customer support. These providers are contractually bound to use your information only as necessary to perform services for SOSitter and are prohibited from using it for independent purposes.

3.3 Background Check Agencies. Caregivers who voluntarily opt into a background check authorize us to share identifying information with our consumer reporting agency partner for the purpose of completing that check. Caregivers who do not opt in do not have information shared with these agencies.

3.4 For Legal Compliance and Safety. We may disclose your information when required by law, subpoena, or court order, or when we believe in good faith that disclosure is necessary to protect the safety of any person, prevent fraud, or protect SOSitter’s legal rights.

3.5 Business Transfers. In the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of all or substantially all of SOSitter’s assets, your information may be transferred to the acquiring entity. We will notify you of any such transfer by email or in-app notification.

4. DATA RETENTION

We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active or as necessary to provide services, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. When you delete your account, your personal data will be removed from our active systems within a reasonable timeframe, subject to any retention obligations required by law. We may retain certain information in archived or de-identified form for legitimate business and legal purposes.

5. YOUR RIGHTS AND CHOICES

5.1 Account Information. You may access, update, or correct your profile information at any time through your account settings in the SOSitter app.

5.2 Account Deletion. You may delete your account at any time through the app. Upon deletion, your profile will be removed from public view and your personal data will be processed for deletion in line with our retention policy.

5.3 Communications Preferences. You may opt out of promotional email communications at any time by using the unsubscribe link in any email or by updating your notification preferences in the app. You cannot opt out of transactional communications related to your account, bookings, or legal notices.

5.4 Location Data. You can disable precise location access through your device settings at any time. Disabling location access may affect the platform’s ability to match you with nearby caregivers.

5.5 Data Access Requests. You may request a copy of the personal data we hold about you by contacting hello@sositter.com.

5.6 Third-Party Dispute Resolution. If you have an unresolved privacy concern that SOSitter has not addressed to your satisfaction, you may contact a third-party dispute resolution provider. Contact us at hello@sositter.com for information on available dispute resolution resources.

6. CALIFORNIA PRIVACY RIGHTS (CCPA)

California residents have the following rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act:

  •       The right to know what personal information we collect, how we use it, and with whom we share it
  •       The right to request deletion of your personal information, subject to certain exceptions
  •       The right to opt out of the sale of personal information. SOSitter does not sell personal information.
  •       The right to non-discrimination for exercising your privacy rights

7. DATA SECURITY

SOSitter uses industry-standard encryption, secure servers, access controls, and regular security reviews to protect your personal information from unauthorized access, disclosure, or misuse. No system is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. In the event of a data breach that affects your rights, we will notify you as required by applicable law.

8. COOKIES AND TRACKING TECHNOLOGIES

SOSitter uses cookies and similar tracking technologies to maintain your login session, remember your preferences, analyze platform usage, and support security features. You may adjust your cookie settings through your browser or device settings. Disabling cookies may affect the functionality of certain platform features.

9. THIRD-PARTY LINKS AND SERVICES

The SOSitter platform may contain links to third-party websites or integrate with third-party services such as Google and Apple for account login. These third parties have their own privacy policies, and SOSitter is not responsible for their data practices. We encourage you to review the privacy policies of any third-party service you use in connection with SOSitter.

10. CHILDREN’S PRIVACY

SOSitter is designed for users aged 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 13. If you believe a child under 13 has submitted personal information through our platform, please contact us at hello@sositter.com and we will remove it promptly.

11. CHANGES TO THIS POLICY

SOSitter may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When material changes are made, we will notify you by email or in-app notification before the changes take effect. The effective date at the top of this page reflects the most recent update. Your continued use of SOSitter after any update constitutes your acceptance of the revised policy.
